The peculiar thing about Kanturas' Elves is that they stop aging at 25 years old. They are not completely immortal however; while they don't age, they can still die by accident or battle. At 25 they are considered mature and every Elven culture celebrates this in a different way. Nowadays all but the Zylvaran Elves are a rare sight on Kanturas.

All Elves are taller than average, between 6'0" (1.83m) and 6'6" (2.0m) tall. They have pointy ears and are more slender than for example humans.

Personality
Elves tend to be more serious than the mortal races of Kanturas. Some older Elves downright look down on the mortal races. This is especially true for the Zansur and Mornori Elves, who can be xenophobic.

Sheorenth Elves are pale-skinned. They all have darker hair colors, such as black, brown and sometimes burgundy red. Their eyes' irises are usually green or blue. When a Sheorenth Elf turns 25 years old, they get their first tattoo, usually on their right upper arm, and in the years that follow they get additional tattoos until every part of the body is covered, except for the head. The last tattoo, usually covering the neck, gets put on on their 1000th birthday. Each design is unique and is gleaned from drinking the tea of the hallucinogenic Wisdom Caapi plant. This is done in a ritual which leads to a shared vision between tattooist and tattoo recipient.

The Minnanien awoke at Syndra's Cradle. It is named Syndra's Cradle because it is where the Goddess Syndra (Elven Demi-deity) created the Elves in her own image. The Elves awoke after Syndra begged Elu (Omnipotent Deity) to give her creations the spark of life that Elu had given to all animals. Elves that were created in this manner are called the Minnanien, the First-born.
The Minnanien, also known as the "First-born" Elves, hold a significant place in the lore of Kanturas. They are the original Elves created by the goddess Syndra at Syndra's Cradle, where she implored Elu, the omnipotent deity, to breathe life into her creations just as had been done for all other living creatures. The Minnanien represent the purest form of Elven lineage, embodying the ideals and aesthetics envisioned by their divine creators. As the earliest of their kind, they possess profound wisdom and a deep connection to both the natural and magical realms of Kanturas. Over the centuries, the Minnanien have become legendary, often regarded as paragons of Elven culture and guardians of ancient traditions and knowledge. Their existence sets the standard for all subsequent Elves, influencing Elven culture and its evolution throughout the ages.

A Sheorenth Elf Dream-weaver.

In Kanturas, Elves stand out as one of the most intriguing and diverse races. Known for their ethereal beauty, longevity, and deep connection with nature and magic, Elves cease aging when they reach 25 years old. While they do not age beyond this point, they are not immortal and can die through accidents or in battle. This milestone age marks a significant rite of passage across different Elven cultures, celebrated uniquely among their various subraces.

Elven Races

The Zylvaran Elves

The Zylvaran Elves are known for their adventurous spirit and pale complexion, with hair colors ranging from blond to platinum and eye colors of green or blue. As the diplomats and traders of the Elven world, they are the most visible and widespread of their kind. When they reach maturity at 25, Zylvaran Elves embark on a journey to live in a non-Elven city for three years, broadening their horizons and forming crucial diplomatic bonds before returning to their birthplaces.

The Faevaran Elves

Contrasting the Zylvaran's cosmopolitan lifestyle, the Faevaran Elves have a strong affinity for forests. They sport darker skin tones and hair colors like black and burgundy red, with similarly dark or green eyes. Upon reaching 25, every Faevaran Elf joins their military, committing at least 25 years to defend their sylvan realms and uphold their traditions.

The Sheorenth Elves

The Sheorenth Elves are notable for their elaborate tattoo rituals that begin when they turn 25. Pale-skinned with dark hair, they celebrate their coming of age by receiving their first tattoo, derived from visions induced by the hallucinogenic Wisdom Caapi plant. This practice continues throughout their lives, culminating in a complete body artwork by their 1000th birthday.

The Mandaru Elves

With their deep ebony skin and darkest black hair, the Mandaru Elves are the solemn guardians of Syndra's Cradle, the sacred birthplace of all Elves. Their training starts at 25, dedicating their lives to protecting this holy site and its profound mysteries.

The Zansur Elves

Known as the Wild Elves, the Zansur are fierce and somewhat xenophobic. They live in small tribal communities, enduring brutal lives that have seen the extinction of their oldest lineage, the Minnanien. Their unique physical traits include slightly longer pointy ears and darker hair colors.

The Mornori Elves

The Mornori or Dark Elves are distinguished by their blue skin and silver-colored hair and eyes. Their significant rite, the Sacrament of the Sun, occurs when they step into the sunlight for the first time at the age of 25, marking their transition into full adulthood under the watchful gaze of the sun.

The Minnanien

Faevaran Elven female.

Half-Elves

Half-Elves, born from unions between Elves and other races, face a unique choice at 25—to fully embrace their Elven heritage or retain their mortality. This decision is sealed in a sacred ritual, the Dual Spirit Rite.

The Repose

Older Elves, weary of centuries of existence, may enter the Repose, a rejuvenating period of hibernation that can last a century or more, providing them much-needed respite.

Conclusion

Elves in Kanturas, with their rich traditions and distinct cultural practices, continue to fascinate and inspire. Each subrace, with its unique rites of passage and ways of life, adds depth and complexity to the tapestry of this magical world, highlighting the diverse ways in which these mystical beings interpret their immortality and interact with their environment.
